Abstract

The objective of this study is investigated the protective effects of α-tocopherol on myocardial hypertrophy, through suppression the angiogenesis process in rat model. Male Brown Norway (BN) rats (4–6 weeks old, 250–300 g) were randomly divided into four groups (n=15): control, exercise, treated with α-tocopherol (250 mg/kg), exercise + α-tocopherol, and exercise + vehicle (normal saline) group. The myocardial hypertrophy was induced by a standard protocol of voluntary exercise. Histological and immunohistochemistry analyses used to assessed myocardial tissue hypertrophy from 1st and 5th week performed, beside gene expression levels of angiogenesis molecules. Together, the presented data from this study demonstrated the other function of α-tocopherol in improved myocardial hypertrophy.
